Product (UI/UX) Designer

Imagineers is a strategic design and intelligent technology studio in Australia and New Zealand. We design how your business can grow intelligently, then build it with you. We offer connected strategy, design, product, software development and transformation services in one studio.

You will be a UI/UX designer on our client work, hands-on. Your job is to give our clients the best possible products and experiences, using your talent for UX and UI design in collaboration with your peers and the company founders to create outstanding work for our clients.

• Own the end-to-end experience of customer apps and web products, from discovery through to designs the engineers build from.
• Design the staff tools that support the same customer journeys.
• Prototype early, test with real customers and adjust the design on what you see, in collaboration with peers.
• Build and maintain a design system with the engineering team, so the product stays consistent as it grows.
• Design to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA as a minimum, with particular care for type size, contrast and dexterity.
• Work with product management and engineering on scope, priorities and trade-offs, and stay close to the build through to release.
• Design AI-assisted features where they help customers or staff, with clear and honest interaction patterns.
• Work with our service designers so that what happens in digital channels, on the phone and in person is one service.
• Use product analytics and customer feedback to find what to fix next.

• Product design experience, typically three to five years, with apps you designed that shipped and that you can walk through in detail.
• Strong interaction and visual design, and a portfolio that shows both.
• Fluency in modern design and prototyping tools, and in design systems.
• Hands-on usability testing and the habit of putting work in front of users early.
• Accessibility built into how you design from the first sketch.
• Experience working inside a product and engineering team, and knowing what it takes to get a design built well.
• The appetite to grow fast, take on more than your title says, and learn from senior designers and founders.
• You run yourself: you set your own plan, keep your commitments, ask early when you are stuck, and need little oversight. We are a studio of collaborators who are very good at what they do, and we hire the same.

• Project based to begin, as a contractor to Imagineers, with the potential to grow into a full-time role.
• Based in Sydney, working alongside our founder. Client work is mostly remote, with occasional travel when a project needs it.
• Work alongside senior strategists, designers, researchers and technologists.
• Use whichever design tools you prefer. You will work in our tools for work management and communication, such as Linear and Slack.
